Description
This image shows the Michigan Central Railroad Station in Detroit, Michigan. The building was opened in 1913 and is an example of the Beaux Arts architecture style. The complex actually consists of two buildings, the railroad station in front and the office tower in back. Interestingly, the top floors of the office tower were never finished or occupied. Trains serviced the station from 1913 through 1988 when the station was abandoned by Amtrak. Since that time the building has fallen into decay. The building has been featured in some recent films, including 'Transformers' and 'The Island', both Michael Bay films. Recently the owners have done some work to stabilize the building and to prevent people from gaining access to the structure. The long-term fate of the building is still up-in-the air, however.
